2012 honda accord review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The benchmark for midsize sedans. introductionthe honda accord is difficult to beat in terms of overall performance, efficiency and refinement. Honda accord and toyota camry have long been the benchmarks for midsize sedans because both do everything well. It comes with a sporty suspension package and low-profile tires on 18-inch wheels, and goes head to head with the nissan altima coupe.  with effectively five trim levels, the accord can fit a wide range of budgets. There's a no-frills sedan with plastic wheel covers, essential features and a solid stereo; and high-trim models with sumptuous leather, mega-watt sound systems, active noise cancellation and navigation. All variants deliver high engineering standards, excellent finish, good build quality and all the important safety equipment.  the 2012 accord carries over largely unchanged; a usb port comes standard on all 2012 accord models. The accord benefitted from a facelift for 2011, and some new features and efficiencies brought improved fuel mileage ratings. The accord sedan and coupe were last redesigned for 2008, when they grew in exterior dimensions and offered improved occupant safety.  some of the accord's competitors have been redesigned more recently. Others can be more fun to drive. Yet there may be none that match accord's overall combination of polish, refinement, efficiency and choice. For that reason, the honda accord remains a benchmark among mainstream, midsize automobiles. lineupthe 2012 honda accord line-up includes sedans and coupes, with three engine choices, 5- and 6-speed manual transmissions, and a 5-speed automatic. Rather than offering traditional options or option packages, honda tends to mark upgrades in equipment with a different model designation. It comes with cloth upholstery; air conditioning; power mirrors, windows and door locks; a tilt-telescoping steering column; folding rear seats; and a 160-watt sound system with single cd, an auxiliary jack and, new for 2012, a usb port. The standard wheels are 16-inch steel with plastic covers, but the tailpipe sports a chrome finisher. The 5-speed manual transmission is standard, and the 5-speed automatic 800) is available. It also adds a 6cd changer, 17-inch alloy wheels, power moonroof, heated mirrors and premium interior accents. The automatic is available.  accord ex v6 sedan 27,280) features a 271-hp, 3. 5-liter v6 with 5-speed automatic; fog lights come standard.  accord ex-l 27,555) and accord ex-l v6 sedan 29,630) add leather on the seats and steering wheel, while the ex-l v6 also has two-position memory for the driver's seat. The ex-l models also come with 270-watt audio, xm satellite radio, bluetooth connectivity, heated front seats, compass and exterior temperature indicator, automatic on/off headlights and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. Accord coupe ex-l v6 with navi 31,930) adds navigation and rearview camera.  safety features on all accords include six airbags, with two-stage front airbags, front passenger side-impact airbags and head-protection curtains for all outboard seats. Other standard safety features include active front head restraints, electronic stability control, antilock brakes with electronic brake distribution and brake assist, and a tire pressure monitor. The optional navigation system includes a rearview camera, which can help the driver spot children and other hazards behind the car when backing up. walkaroundall honda accord models got a mild styling makeover for 2011, and there are no significant changes for 2012. Known in the car business as a mid-cycle facelift, the 2011 changes are about as extensive as any car gets between complete redesigns. They re-emphasize the accord's conservative, upscale appearance.  the current-generation accord sedan was introduced as a 2008 model, and it's larger than any before it. Although it competes in the mid-size market segment, the sedan is classified a large car by the federal government, based on interior volume. The coupe looks lighter, more lithe.  the 2011 styling updates for the sedan and coupe won't be obvious from across a parking lot, but they're noticeable in details at closer range. The sedan's front bumper and grille, wedged between angular, jewel-like light clusters were re-shaped. The effect is a slightly more pronounced snout than before. In back, the lip of the trunk lid and the taillights have been tweaked for a crisper, even more substantial look.  in general, the accords maintain their contemporary yet notably conservative design, highlighted by a strong character line that slopes down and forward like that of the acura tl, though the hondas are much less angular than the acuras. All accord variants maintain the honda hallmarks of narrow windshield pillars and a low cowl that promote good forward visibility. The swept-back headlight housings minimize protruding corners and ease maneuverability, though it takes some familiarity before the driver is certain exactly where the corners of the car are. Many of the accord's design elements are a product of auto/pedestrian collision standards. Stepping up to the accord se model adds leather upholstery and heated seats, but the basics like seat design and driver ergonomics are shared by all models.  the leather is high quality and perfectly tailored, and the driver's seat in most models has multiple power adjustments. There's good support for the long haul, but the seats are easy to slide in and out of during around-town errands. Ex-l v6 models add a two-position memory for the driver's seat. The shifter is right at hand, and the proper handbrake has short travel. The sunroof button, reading lights and a drop-down glasses holder are located in a mini-console above the rearview mirror.  there's a clear view of what's all around outside the accord, and of the proven, extra-crisp dial-and-needle gauges inside. Accords equipped with the navigation system now come with a back-up camera, and it's valuable. 2012 honda civic review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new version evolves to meet varied expectations. introductionit's been a bestseller for decades, more than 8. 8 million sold in the u. Since its 1973 introduction, and the latest redesign is aimed at making the honda civic the absolute number one player among an increasingly capable crop of compact cars.  the all-new 2012 honda civic is the ninth generation of the civic, and it has a long, distinguished record of engineering innovation. As has been the case in previous iterations, there's some of that in the 2012 civic models, too, aimed at giving it the broadest possible reach in its market segment.  on the other hand, it's not really the gee-whiz breakthrough that's distinguished some previous generations, particularly in terms of engine innovation. Though to be fair, honda has imbued some models with a little more thrust while simultaneously raising fuel economy ratings right across the board.  perhaps more important, the latest civic will be available in its broadest-ever array of models: the dx, lx, and ex sedans and coupes come with a 140-horsepower 1. 8-liter engine expected to get 28 mpg in the city, 39 mpg on the highway when equipped with the 5-speed automatic transmission.  the civic hybrid continues, with efficiency improvements for 2012. Although honda has a specific hybrid model, the insight, the hybrid returns to the civic lineup with increased power in its integrated electric booster motor and deeper electric power reserves in a new lithium-ion battery pack.  for those who don't wish to pay the hybrid premium, there's the 2012 civic hf, with exceptional fuel stinginess from a regular internal combustion power train designed for thrift. Fuel economy is up in standard civics, too.  the civic si returns as the high output member of the lineup, offered once again in coupe and sedan body styles. With the demise of the s2000 sports car, it's the only high-performance car in honda's lineup. The 2012 civic si features a new engine, a smidgen of additional horsepower, and substantially more torque. The added torque makes the si easier to drive around town without constant downshifting, significant because a 6-speed manual is the only transmission offered.  though completely redesigned, the 2012 civic looks similar to the previous-generation version. Its exterior dimensions are about the same, though the wheelbase is slightly shorter.  the cabin is attractive with quality materials and nicely designed seats with lots of adjustment and a new driver's information display. The available 160-watt audio system sounds very good and bluetooth is available for hands-free cellphone use.  underway, the 2012 civic is creamy smooth and exceptionally quiet. The brakes are easy to modulate for smooth stops in everyday driving and will stop the car quickly when called upon. Handling is average, so the standard models do not rate high on the fun meter. lineupthe 2012 honda civic comes in six models. The 5-speed manual is standard, but the 5-speed automatic is available for the lx sedan 18,655) and lx coupe 18,455).  civic ex sedan 20,505) comes standard with the 5-speed automatic. Civic ex includes six-speaker audio system, bluetooth, 60/40 split rear seat, upgraded rear-seat accommodations, one-touch power moonroof with tilt feature. The ex sedan and ex coupe are available with navi and xm radio 22,005).  civic ex-l 21,955) coupe and sedan upgrade to leather-trimmed interior and heated front seats. The civic ex-l is also available with navi and xm radio 23,455).  civic hf 19,455) sedan is designed for maximum fuel efficiency with specially tuned 1. 8-liter engine and 5-speed automatic. Civic gx sedan runs natural gas and comes with the 5-speed automatic.  civic hybrid 24,050) sedan is available with navi and xm radio 25,550) or leather 25,250) or both 26,750).  civic si sedan 22,405) and coupe 22,205) feature a high-performance 2. 4-liter engine and 6-speed manual. Navi and xm radio are available for the si sedan 23,905) and si coupe 23,705). walkaroundgiven a budget and a mission, no designer is likely to leave well enough alone, and that's true of the new 2012 civic lineup.  but this is a more of a challenge than one might think. The eighth-generation civic has been successful throughout its six-plus years, and its sleek lines still look good.  on the other hand, success notwithstanding, no automotive design lasts indefinitely. So the design leader has to find a way to retain the successful elements and still imbue the product with a sense of newness.  the new cars sport redesigned fascias, updated rear ends, and new character lines, but the basic shape, which lead designer toshiyuki okumoto calls a 'one motion form,' has the same flowing aero look. Although the wheelbase is slightly shorter, body dimensions are essentially identical, and it takes a practiced eye to tell new from old at a glance.  although the sheetmetal is basically all new, honda didn't take any chances here. Whether this will be a plus over the long service life of the design remains to be seen.  the distinction between civic generation eight and nine isn't as dramatic as the change from seven to eight, when the slick aero shape first emerged. Honda has chosen to spread its development budget over refinements and a broader model range. interiorquality materials, attractive design, and colorful instrument lighting give the civic interiors a look that's a notch or two above compact norms. The bi-plane look continues in the new car, with important info repeated at the top of the dash, allowing the driver to scan with minimum visual redirection.  forward sightlines, always the driver's first line of defense, were good in the previous generation, but even better here. We appreciated the thinner windshield pillars and mini-window set in the angle where the windshield pillar intersects the car's hood. A lot of new cars have thick a-pillars that can obstruct the driver's view of pedestrians and other vehicles, but not here.  the biggest change inside the car, though is the new i-mid, or intelligent multi-information display. There's considerable body roll in hard cornering, the tradeoff for excellent ride quality. Fuel economy figures were not official but are expected to be about 28 mpg in the city/39 mpg on the highway. Honda recommends regular unleaded gas.  th. 2012 honda cr-v review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The original, according to honda lore, was conceived to fulfill a need the company perceived for a comfortable runabout vehicle. The new version is improves on the previous generation though only slightly.  the honda cr-v comes packed with features such as bluetooth-enabled hands-free capability and streaming audio. The audio system comes with the ability to function as a control head for the internet radio site pandora. Not only is there a rearview camera, but it's a multi-angle unit that lets the driver choose between a top view and either a 130-degree or a 180-degree view. Automatic climate control, leather, heated front seats and a premium, 328-watt audio system with a subwoofer and xm satellite radio are available. Those figures split the difference between the segment's major players.  new on the 2012 cr-v is the eco-assist system, which will adjust transmissions shift points and gently retard acceleration to improve fuel economy. Eco-assist can be switched on and off by the driver. Honda has given the new cr-v some equally new drivetrain technology.  the 2012 cr-v gets hill-start assist, which applies the brakes when the car is stopped on an incline and releases them when the driver touches the accelerator. The clutch that sends power to the rear wheels on the awd models has a pre-load function that prevents any initial slippage when moving off from a stop. On freeways and surface streets, the ride and handling is solid without being overly firm and stable with little body lean in corners even at elevated speeds.  the 2012 cr-v's styling definitely falls more toward evolutionary than revolutionary. Most of the changes are minor, leaving the visuals in familiar territory. Headlight housings are sleeker. The roofline is an inch lower, and the side sculpting is more pronounced. The most remarkable difference is something only following drivers get to enjoy, as the liftgate and taillight assemblies have received a complete re-do and look remarkably more contemporary than those on the 2011 cr-v.  interior finish is honda-spec, with everything fitting snugly and pleasantly styled panels and trim pieces complimenting each other and showing a consistent theme. Controls are functional and for the most part intuitive. The screen on the optional navigation system is large and easy to read, though the system takes a long time to start up. Honda's decision to go with hard plastic surfaces everywhere but the door armrests is disappointing. The lower roofline means occupants lose an inch of headroom. The ex-l gets the only factory-installed options offered: a navigation system with turn-by-turn directions 28,545) and rear-seat dvd entertainment system 27,745). Each version is available with awd.  safety equipment comprises frontal airbags, front seat side-impact airbags, full coverage side curtain airbags, electronic stability control, abs, brake assist, electronic brake-force distribution, the federally mandated tire pressure monitoring system, rear seat anchors and tethers for child safety seats (latch), and multi-angle rearview camera. Optional all-wheel drive improves handling stability in slippery conditions. walkaroundchanges to the 2012 cr-v from the 2011 are evolutionary rather than revolutionary. All essential styling cues remain the same, with marginal adjustments to dimensions more than anything else.  front view is a little sleeker, rounder, with a more rakish shape to the headlights. The grille still sports three horizontal bars but wider spaced. The lower valance follows the same general outline, but it's more pronounced. Fog lights are pretty much the same place as on the 2011. The hood sculpting reverses from convex to concave. Fender blisters are bolder, giving the new cr-v a stronger stance.  side silhouette is almost identical, for the most part, save for a one inch lower roofline and a one inch shorter overall length. Sculpting across door lowers is less linear, more recessed with a slight coke bottle-ness. Wheel arches are fuller and more sharply defined. The rearmost side window pinches down to a tapered trailing edge, accenting the rear taillight and backup cluster that now wraps around into the rear quarter, breaking up somewhat the added sheetmetal in the c-pillar (the vertical body panel between the roof and lower body behind the rearmost side window). Full round door handles over oval recesses easily accommodate gloved hands.  the rearview of the 2012 cr-v looks complete, like the stylists knew where they wanted to go when they started and finished the job. The 2011, in contrast, showed a generic backend for smaller suvs, with a piece of glass sandwiched between the trademark cr-v vertical taillights and perched on top of an uninspired, conventionally stamped sheet of metal bracketed by basic backup lights and reflector elements. Drooping suspension and spindly drive mechanicals visible to following drivers may well have been sufficiently robust, but were somewhat short of reassuring visually. Proportions are right, with the backlight (rear window) fully integrated into the liftgate's lower half. A thin strip of brightwork tops the license plate recess that itself snugs into the upper half of a scalloped recess spanning the liftgate from one fender to the other. The vertical taillights each look to be a single piece and are inclusive of the backup and running lights. Tires properly positioned relative to the rear fenders match the front end's solid stance. The matte-finished lower valance masks all but the beefiest of the rear suspension underpinnings. interiorat first blush, the 2012 cr-v interior comes across as an elegant upgrade from the 2011's. The leather is a little short of luxurious but no less so than what trims seats in competitively priced comparatives suvs. Door armrests are padded. Door-mounted map pockets are molded to hold a beverage can or water bottle, but aren't especially deep, so no cups, please, unless topped with sipper caps.  that one inch lower roofline, though, as helpful as it might be for slipping through the air, also means occupants lose an inch of headroom from the 2011 model and fall behind the primary competitors, the toyota rav4, the hyundai tucson, the ford escape and the chevrolet equinox, by at least that much. Occupants hold their own in legroom, however, except for the equinox, which gives occupants around an inch more than the new cr-v.  the center console now extends forward all the way under the pod holding the shift lever, adding usable storage space in the form of a longer and deeper, covered storage bin, one large enough, the honda folk promise, to conceal a good sized handbag. Small trays are tucked into each side of the lower part of that extended console. The lower portion of the dash curves outward from the more subdued shift lever pod in graceful arcs toward the doors, which themselves repeat the arc cues.  the screen that se.

Not only is there a rearview camera, but it's a multi-angle unit that lets the driver choose between a top view and either a 130-degree or a 180-degree view. The original, according to Honda lore, was conceived to fulfill a need the company perceived for a Comfortable Runabout Vehicle. 2012 Honda CR-V Review This car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale
